Our Mission

It all started when...

In 2006 Board Member Joe Kilpatrick taught a seminar at KMU with future KMU President Kasap Owan in attendance. By 2012 Kasap had received his PhD and been appointed to the Senate of the UMC and began annual trips to the US, looking to our Board Members Joe Kilpatrick and Neil Nickelsen for financial and housing assistance. Through conversations with Dr. Kasap and David Persons, UMC missionary assigned to Mulungwishi, they learned of the ongoing financial needs of KMU. With David Person’s pending retirement it was apparent there was a need for new sources of funding. So in 2014 The Friends of Katanga Methodist University was formed with the goal of providing scholarship funding for Seminary students and has expanded from there.

And Now...

Our work encompasses the Schools of Theology, Education, Agriculture, Information Technology and other programs that exist and may be added. We are encouraging the expansion of the KMU Clinic as a strong resource for medical care at KMU and in the community. Via cooperation with USAID and existing US institutions such as Oklahoma State University we are working to expand the School of Agriculture’s ability to create projects that can contribute to KMU’s financial needs. We are also actively exploring other avenues that can also help KMU become self-sustaining financially.
